Your Guide to THC Dosage in Edibles
So here’s the deal with THC dosage in edibles.
The brands you love are doing everything they can to stay in compliance with laws and regulations so that they can continue serving up the products you love so much.
For cannabis edible companies, this has been a more challenging feat than ganjapreneur business owners probably anticipated.
After jumping through many hoops when it comes to packaging, ingredients, and yes, THC dosage, the products you buy now are as optimal as the current regulations allow for.
This has made a lot of die-hard edible fans pretty pissed off because the dosage is much less than what it used to be.
However, people who are newer to edibles and cannabis in general are stoked because of the super consistent and build-able dosage.
Let’s break it down.
Right now, edibles can’t have more than 10mg of THC per serving, and can’t have more than 100mg of THC per container. This means that most bite-sized portions (one gummy, one chocolate square, one cracker, etc…) are going typically going to be somewhere between 5mg and 10mg of THC.
For those of us who aren’t weed scientists, let me clear a few things up.
How to know what dosage is right for you:
They way your body and mind respond to THC has to do with a lot of factors. This could have to do with your age, weight, tolerance, biological sex, and other random stuff…
So, if you’re pretty new to cannabis, we recommend that you start with an edible serving that has 5mg of THC in it. Whether this means it’s a single serving, or an edible with 10mg that you have to break in half, give it a try.
Edibles can take between a half hour and two hours to hit. But people who are new to edibles tend to make the same mistake. Eating too much too fast.
Typically, it’s because they simply don’t wait long enough to feel the effects. If you eat half of an edible and don’t feel anything after fifteen minutes, DON’T eat the other half yet! Just wait. Find some funny YouTube videos. Go for a walk. Practice yoga or meditation. Do what you gotta do to keep yourself from eating the other half of that cookie. Trust us, you’ll thank us later.
On the other side of the spectrum, if you’re used to smoking every day, your tolerance to THC will be very different from a new smoker. So instead of starting with 5mg, we can only legally recommend that you start with 10mg. But if that doesn’t work for you, some may tell you to continue to dose up until you hit the 20-40mg range. Not us though, because, ya know, legal stuff.
Edible dosage has become more consistent ever since the newest regulations. It’s not like the dark ages where one brownie wouldn’t make you feel anything and another from the same batch will put you on the moon.
